How the car works this out
The ABS module is one of the busiest talkers on the network. It publishes the four individual wheel speeds and the calculated road speed, which the instruments, the engine, the gearbox, the power steering and the cruise control all consume. Other modules know how often those messages should arrive, and U0121 is stored when they stop. Because so much depends on that one broadcast, the loss of a single module produces symptoms across the whole car, which makes the fault look far more serious than it usually is.
